Bula Blogolytes Beer Bash: Feb. 28

February 24th, 2014 · 32 Comments

Jenables and Kirk — two people I’ve never met except through pixels, so this will be exciting — have called for a get-together of all of us blog lurkers so that we can insult each other to our faces.

Or perhaps not.

At any rate, we/they have suggested we convene at the Elephant and Castle in the Marine Building downtown at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28. I will be there. So will they. We hope a few of you will too.

I will be there with bells on. And clothes, definitely.

  • Kirk

See you on Friday. I might be running late though.

  • Jeff Leigh

    See you there

  • jenables

Np kirk, I’ll hold down the fort. If you think you might attend kindly leave a remark in the comments here so I can adjust the reservation if necessary. Table is under bula blog, so you know.

  • teririch

I would happily attend, but am heading out of town for work.

I hope you all have a great time!

  • Kenji

Wait, we’re not meeting at the Vision thing?
I may show up quickly then dash off. Not to the Vision thing, I am going to a musical event and may in fact have bells on or near me.

  • Paul Tolnai

…donations to Gregor’s re-election campaign will gladly be accepted.
Please address to: Frances Bula. 🙂

  • jenables

    Kenji, I’m guessing I’m not invited >:)

  • Bill McCreery

I’ll try to make this, but Friday’s are not good for me.

The two that I’ve attended have been really good. It’s human to put faces and people to this page, and those I’ve met I have enjoyed and learned from.

    Look forward to Friday…

  • Kenji

Jenables, I’d take you there, or anywhere that Mrs. Kenji tells me to go. Currently I am told to go to the Eastside Music series.

Everything is happening Friday, it seems, including a Trek-themed burlesque event.

    Friday is awesome!

  • Chris

An opportunity to meet blogosphere personalities over beer? Count me in.

  • neil21 (@neil21)

Working downtown that afternoon, and no specific evening obligations: I think I can make it!

  • Frank Ducote

My regrets. Have fun and play nice!

  • brian.

I might try to pop in early.

  • jenables

A heads up. .. I’m waiting for a taxi so I may be a few mins late

  • Kenji

    Thanks, Kirk and Jenables!

  • Jenables

Thanks all who attended for a lovely evening! I was more than pleased to chat with familiar faces and those i hadn’t meet before! let’s do that again sometime, shall we?

  • Jenables

Ps – kenji, i didn’t see any bells dammit! Though i could have brought some sleigh bells i got from a movie prop place that were apparently used in ‘elf’. Next time.

  • Kirk

Another good night. Like a therapy support group for the dwindling few of us in the city who are still engaged. Thanks for coming out, Frances.

  • Jeff Leigh

Thanks for organizing, Kirk and Jenables.

Good to see people again, and thanks for coming out Frances.

  • Chris Kay

Likewise, thanks for organizing, had a blast! Great to meet the faces behind the names and gab about city issues.

  • Silly Season

Next one, guys. Sorry to have missed it.

  • F.H.Leghorn

Trading insults? Could mean trouble. But there’s good news for waltroll and others who have been threatened with actions for libel: the defence (in the absence of evidence of malicious intent) is fair comment. To quote Ezra Levant’s lawyer Iain MacKinnon: “fair comment can even protect comments that are “foolish, obstinate, biased, prejudiced or wrong … rude, severe, extravagant, extreme, embarrassing, exaggerated or even fantastic.”
    Remind you of anyone?

  • Kenji

    Yeah, the poet guy

  • bablu1

    You.

  • Waltyss

Oh Foghorn, itching for a verbal fight.
Unlike your hero, the truly repulsive Levant, I don’t need the defence of fair comment. I am content to rely on truth as a defence to Rich’s silly but constant threats of an action for defamation.
In any event, I second Kenji and bablu1’s nominations of people truly in need of the defence of fair comment.

  • Kenji

Well thanks but I regret it now Walty.

Because Kenji is not about cheap shots.

Kenji is all about asking questions and making remarks in an inane, uninformed manner, from a complacently centrist zone of comfort.

  • Everyman

Like Silly Season, I resolve to try and make the next one.

  • Waltyss

Kenji@26: you forgot slyly self deprecating.

  • Andrew Browne

I really should check here more often – missed it again!

  • Bill

I am not sure how anonymous posters can end up in a defamatory exchange. Besides, the only thing lamer than waltyss’ insults is when he is trying to advance a cogent argument which probably explains the insults.

Speaking of defamation. Swing by http://www.steynonline.com/ and support Mark Steyn as he defends free speech against the defamation lawsuit filed by the Nobel Prize Certificate of Participation recipient, Dr. Michael “Hockey Stick” Mann.

  • Richard

    @Jen and Kirk

Thanks for organizing the evening. Tons more fun than commenting on the blog.

Next time, maybe we should have a masquerade event so everyone can join in on the fun. 🙂
