My new, non-Vancouver Sun blog has been up for a month now and I’ve had just over 20,000 visits/hits/page views/whatever in that time, which is quite a testament to the passion of civic-politics junkies to read something, anything even in the dead heat of summer.
But one disturbing thing I’m noticing. My webalizer stats give me an hour-by-hour breakdown of the number of visits to my site. They peak between 3 and 7 p.m., with the biggest hits just after 6. That tells me a certain amount of afternoon and post-work reading. Okay, that’s normal enough.
But the next biggest peak in the readership is between midnight and 3 a.m. I always knew there were a few fanatics out there, like a certain NPA-affiliated person who emails me at 2 a.m. to comment on my posts — you know who you are, missy. But I didn’t realize how many of you were hunched over your laptops in the middle of the night, the blue glow of the screen casting a sickly light on your pale, drawn face … (fill in details about poor lifestyle choices here).
Take a break, folks. If you’re up because you’re having trouble sleeping, go for a naked midnight swim at Kits Beach or slug back a bottle of wine — if nothing else, it will do wonders for your political career.

Excellent advice, fabula!
The “slug back a bottle of wine” thing, anyway.
Shrinkage may be involved in those late night Kits Beach swims as the weather cools.
Thanks for your insights on all things political locally . . . .

I’m all over the naked swimming thing! No shrinkage here…first one to swim the 135 yards wins the city!
Better than settling these things in a drunken brawl, I guess—which I believe has also happened amongst all parties.
I put the blame on you, though, Frances for providing too many tantalizing posts that keep us all up late at night.
It’s like that old potato chip commercial—betcha can’t read just one.

Okay, I confess that I do occasionally check your website between midnight and 3:00 a.m. but only when one of my dogs has made me wake up to let him or her out for a bit of night-time relief. I check my email too and some other websites…okay, I admit it, I’m a political junkie.
