Vancouver appoints new CFO — not Estelle Lo

March 11th, 2009 · 4 Comments

This news release just out from the city on the new CFO who has been hired. Some were thinking that Vision, grateful to Estelle Lo for her emails to Judy Rogers highlighting concerns about the Olympic village that were then leaked by someone to the media, might hire her back. Apparently not. Here’s the new boss. (And now we know what the purpose of this morning’s in camera meeting was.) And here’s the only recent story I was able to find about her.

City appoints new Chief Financial Officer

Following a national search, the City of Vancouver announces today the appointment of Ms. Patrice Impey as the Chief Financial Officer and General Manager of Financial Services for the City of Vancouver.

Ms. Impey brings over 15 years of senior experience in finance and administration roles. Most recently, she was the Vice President of Finance Americas for the international software firm Business Objects, a company with revenues of over $1.5 billion. Other experience includes CFO of Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Ltd. in Toronto, and senior financial roles with Hewlett-Packard in Palo Alto, California.

The search committee was chaired by the City Manager and included the City’s General Manager of Human Resources. The selection process included input from members of City Council, the City’s Corporate Management Team, and senior staff within Financial Services.

“We’re delighted to have Patrice join the team. Her skills and experience will be a tremendous asset to the City as we manage our economic challenges and explore new opportunities,” states City Manager Penny Ballem.

The appointment is effective April 16, 2009.

This council is dragging all staff into political affiliations. Judy and Jody were fired and new city manager was appointed politically without any posting and selection process. Now they have hired new CFO, without any posting, purely on political basis. That never happened in the history of City of Vancouver, very depressing and deplorable

This council may last three years , it will take a very long time to mitigate the impacts these political hiring and firing would make on the city .

    I am sad!

FRANCES SAYS: Actually, while it’s true that the new city manager was hired without a posting, that’s not true for the CFO. There was a national search initiated while Judy Rogers was still in charge. This is the result of that search.
