Vancouver’s FOI officer resigns, rumours say FOI could move to legal dept

November 1st, 2010 · 8 Comments

This just went up on the citycaucus.com website. Paul is a young guy, so this is not something can be written off as another boomer getting close to retirement.

Anyone know anything more on this? You can email me at

I cleaned a lot of toilets with Paul in the downtown eastside during the 2007 strike. He’s a great guy to talk to and work with. I hope he’s left the city because he’s been offered a better job.

It is so incredibly sad what is happening here. I know that young, idealistic ‘greenies’ love this guy (Mayor) and think that the end justifies the means. But it is no exageration to say that this mayor and city manager are dealing a crippling blow to civil society and democracy in Vancouver. Both civil society and democracy require openness and debate and intelligent compromise. All are absent in City Hall now. That is not going to be good for the so-called green agenda in the long run, and it is the long run that will get us out of the pickle we’re in, if we can get out of it at all. Bike lanes alone are not going to save the planet.

As a result of the atmosphere of required complete obedience to the party line, many who came into public service believing in PUBLIC and SERVICE are desperately looking for a way out. And it is those people who were already working inside the sytem to achieve green and social justice progress.

I have never seen it this bad. The media should be asking what happened to the engagement survey of employees the results of which were promised ages ago.

If only he would write a tell all book, I’m sure it would be fascinating. I’m sure he had very good reasons for up and quitting without apparently securing another job to go to first.

    Who’s next?

It’ s called…concentrating the executive power. Others may call it politicizing the hall. squezzing the civil balls. Par example: 20 executive positions. Make one job out of two. 10 left. Check. Bring your own people. Check. Pay them twice as much for that kissing butt qualities. Check. Eliminate or intimidate the competition, or what’s left of it. Check. Advance your delusional agenda of municipal destruction. Check. Hope for another term in office so you can completely wipe out any form of wrongdoing. Hope. What’s left for me to wish Vision? Mazel tov.

It could very well be Gregor personally driving out this guy. But until we hear more, accusations such as diderot’s above are just ridiculous.

And I just read this on Jeff Lee’s civic blog:

“I called Hancock at the city this afternoon – he’s off somewhere – but I’ve been told that he tendered his resignation and is leaving to move to another job. The words were “a fabulous opportunity” and I gather it may be in a similar line of work.”

Next one might be from Transportation, they are under extreme pressure.

    @ diderot + Higgins.

What inanity. Vancouver is half a world and seven decades away from 1930s Germany.

And you paid Sam equal attention, did you?
