Three wishes for the next three years

In my end-of-year, end-of-election-season post for my CTV blog, I look at the challenges all these new councils face and my fondest hopes for what they will and won’t do as they tackle those challenges.

    I liked the third element.

    We would be a lot better of if the Mayor and/or committee chairs operated as real meeting chairs and not, like the last Council, as partisan cheer leaders allowing the Vancouver equivalent of Hyde Park corner soapboxes to thrive. We might, as citizens, learn what are key issues rather than learn about the partisan polemics of the various parties.

    A lot of the silliness is for our benefit, so it’s up to you media folks to call it when you see it and for us ordinary citizens, duly informed, to demand better.
