Poll #3: Gregor Robertson enjoys “rare level of support” — at 43 per cent approval

November 7th, 2010 · 57 Comments

The battle of the exclusive polls continues. Vancouver Sun latest up at bat here. Critics will note that approval seems to have gone from 78 (Stratcom, June, leaked to the Sun) to 69 (Justason, September, given to the Globe) to 43 (Angus Reid, now). And only one-third say he deserves to be elected.

Echoing also what I have heard in casual conversations, the Hornby bike lane is a real hot potato, with the city very divided over it.

I leave the floor to you, ladies and gentlemen. By the way, can we just start a Twitter hash tag now for the 2011 election. Maybe #yvrvote?

    Dear D. Darko,

You ra … sorry … complain vociferously that your West End life is made miserable by “irresponsible people.”

Judging from your willingness to expend such large amount of energy to avoid rational commentary and to be offensive, I wonder if you even have a life.

    Two questions.

    Who commissioned the poll?

And why did the pollster not compare this Mayor with the popularity of other Lower Mainland mayors?

If they didn’t want to take the time to find out, they could have at least used some historic numbers for other mayors.

Somehow comparing Gregor to Gordon Campbell and Stephen Harper seems a bit absurd to me! But then, I’m an architect and planner, not a political pollster.

Let’s go back to Doug 1. The Sun & Ipsos missed the point. Going from 78% to 43% in 4 months is nothing other than freefall.

….or it could be an indication that Stratcom has some creative polling methods to reach the 78% rating in the first place…

    > You are a lobbyist, therefore – you have no credibility. Drink your Happy Planet crap and shut your trap.

Donnie_Darko_ captures so beautifully right there the whole Tea Party/City Caucus voice. Smear those who you disagree with and frame them with codewords like their choice of fruit juice, and then tell them to shut up. You forgot the ‘or else’ Donnie, but it seems you’re not convincing anyone here or elsewhere, which is why you vent so hard.

The Translink fuel tax is 15 cents per litre. A driver who buys 2000 litres a year pays $300 in fuel tax to Translink. The driver pays another $280 for the Translink property tax on a $700,000 home in South Surrey. There may be a second vehicle adding to the household transit fuel tax. Then there is the Hydro transit levy of about $24. Now there will be another increase to the transit property tax.
There will be a taxpayers revolt if there is a vehicle levy .

  • Barb Justason

Justason’s approval rating was reported in August as 49%, not 69%.
