COPE dumps Cadman, chooses anti-Vision advocate Louis, plus moderates Woodsworth and Aquino

Political junkies, fill your boots figuring this one out.

Here’s my story. This changes the look of the chessboard.

    MB – what a joke. The mayor curses at citizens wanting to express their opinion and you call Anton out for being unstatesman like!

    @ brillaint, lots of politicians curse and are disrespectful of the electorate at times, and Robertson will pay a price. Could even be the mayorality.

    But not every politician changes their mind like changing a shirt, or demonstrates a two-faced nature, habitually voting for something, then speaking against it after.

    For two years + 10 months all we’ve heard from Anton is what she’ll oppose or tear down after first supporting these very things. And now at one minute to twelve she’ll define what she’ll support and build on?

    Now that’s a real joke.

    Chris Keam stated:

    “I would note that the NPA appear to be positioning themselves as a party of people with differing viewpoints (if I’m correctly understanding their campaign to date), so it will be interesting to see how much bloc voting goes on if more than one NPA candidate gains a seat on Council.”

    I agree Chris, it’s a very open tent – not recruiting candidates who will simply “follow the party line”, nor requiring them to agree on every issue. I think this should be respected, as the focus is on people who care about the city and will vote their conscience on issues….which is what I think we all want!

    I would also like to address Michael Geller’s decision to vote for who he thinks are the best candidates, not for one particular party. From what I can tell, he’s planning on looking at each of the candidates individually and determining who he thinks will best represent our city….pretty hard to take issue with that! If all the NPA candidates want his vote, they will simply have to win his vote by showing him that they are the best people for the job….which I think is the purpose of an election.

    No offence, but Anton is a lone NPA councilor up aganst a block voting brick wall.

    From someone who has watched many of the council meetings, she is lucky to get two words in without being spoken down to (but then again, they treat most citizens who disagree with their policies in the same fashion), or, having her mic turned off.

    I think the worst and most embarassing case of this was when she was attempting to read a letter from the mother of one of the deceased Pandora house fire victims.

    They shut her down midway – they being Vision, did not let her finish.

    Vision has a whole is a comlete mockery of what city hall should be.

    You reference the bike lanes – the Hornby bike lane ‘consulation’ was a sham process. The only people not recognizing it as such are the Vison council members that pushed it through, their die-hard fans and of course, the cycling advocates Vision pandered to.

    And I poise this question again, why are cyclists holding up traffic heading north on Burrard when the bike lane – that was supposedly all about safety is one block over???

    @Bill Tieleman # 31:

    ‘Mutal repsect’ – it that like what the NDP showed Carole James???

    Or was the back stabbing muntiny something different????

    MB said,

    So far, Gregor, warts, F-word and all, has the edge because he does not shift his position like the wind.

    Except when he shifted his position on the Olympic Village non-market housing.

    In his statement to Council as an MLA (PDF file) he laments the reduction of non-market housing, yet that’s what happened during Vision’s majority.

    My linking isn’t working for some reason. Here’s the PDF file:

    @ Max 54″ No offence, but Anton is a lone NPA councilor up aganst a block voting brick”

    True enough. But she was not up against a media wall for three years outside of chambers and could have articulated her positions better to the public, especially when she supposedly had an entire party policy and commnucations aparatus backing her. Most citizens pay at least moderate attention to the news. But very few (me included) watch council meetings.

    To be honest, I am disappointed in both the mayor and the wannabe, but feel that Robertson has the edge.

    e: bikes … I am not going to open that one up here. That one is as overcooked as English vegetables.

    @MB #58:

    Let’s face it, Robertson is not the sharpest tool in the box.

    He is lucky he has handlers – because when he has run off script – deer in the headlights time.

    And I agree on the all things ‘bike’ subject. Done to death.

    I love it that Cadman was hoisted on his own petard ie. subjugating COPE to Vision.
