It looks like that to many with this post.

Not a big surprise. Ever since he lost access to City Hall after Sullivan and the NPA were swept out, he’s been on a tear against the current council and always seems to be popping up in the media as a concerned citizen. Alright guy, too bad so much of his pre-campaign has been gutter-nasty.

Mike is knowledgeable, opinionated and literate. Something I cannot say about too many from the present council (include Mayor in here as well) Sure he’ll look like a polished old shoe in there but that’s OK. The only new shoes I’d like to look at would probably be Glissando’s (if the rumors are true), Michael Geller would get my love (if he makes up his mind), maybe I’ll throw my vote to the wind but we need the change. And I know that many reading/ writing here on this blog would not approve of that. To paraphrase Ballem (who I hope buys her set of farewell lugage now while they are on sale at Costco) ‘Tough, Eh?!”

The rumour the Mr. Klassen would run for city council has been in the wind for awhile (thanks to AGT!).

He would be a very welcomed breath of fresh air and I do hope he carries through. The only sad thing is CC losing him he and Daniel are two persons in this city holding the current council accountable. They have unearthed much of the dirty laundry that the ‘City’ does not want the unwashed masses to know about.

Time to get rid of the deadwood.

As for Brian, if you’ve ever read City Caucus you should know, he has NEVER lost access to City Hall. And that speaks volumes.

    Good luck Mike!

When I spoke with M Geller last week and he clearly stated that he would not be running this time around. I tried talking him into it, but I don’t think I was persuasive enough. If he changes his mind and does run though I’ll accept the credit. 🙂

I’ll gladly vote for either/both Mike or Michael here, and hope they both run.

Matter of fact, as the male caller to ‘NW told Meggs, with this much dissatisfaction you could put lipstick on a pig, run it against Gregor and he’d vote for the pig.

Wait, no need to bother with the lipstick.

My parents were raised in Europe at a time when tyranny, corruption and dictatorships were the norm. They are so averse to even the possibility for abuse of power by majority rule that now as Canadians they always vote for the underdog because they value strong oppositions and parliamentary upper chambers of sober second thought at higher levels of government, over populist sentiments, even if it’s against their personal interests.

I have heard from others who had also asked M Geller to run. At least then there would be credible development expertise on council, over politically motivated side deals between the city manager, the developer and the ruling party that contort city staff to make politically expedient decisions which compromise the public good.

Watching our current council this past year, it’s clear that a better balance is needed. Without a doubt Mike Klassen would hold the Vision councillor’s feet to the fire. Three years on, it’s obvious that relegating the city’s business to party platitudes written for an election year has not served the city well.

  • Bill McCreery

    @ TOB 6.

The NPA’s objective in this election is not to “hold the Vision Councillor’s feet to the fire”, it is to elect a majority on all 3 Boards. This City is at a crossroads not unlike where we were in 1972 during the freeway debate. We need to make a decision not only about what kind of city we want, but also what kind of government we need to have in order to achieve the 1st objective.

  • Higgins

    Bill # 7,

This is how I see it:
‘The NPA’s objective in this election is to elect a majority on all 3 Boards. And then…“hold the Vision Councillor’s feet to the fire” and fire all the Vision apparatchik hired by them.’
    Period. Cut the pleasantries.
Anything else would seem uncivilized. That’s why you need Glissy. 🙂

  • West End Gal

There was no surprise in what Mike Klassen would do. That was obvious from the very inception of City Caucus blog. I agree he would be an intersecting NPA/ COPE. VISION addition to the City Council. What’s funny is the speculation on Mr. Glissando Remmy, I’ve found it on at least five other threads. Is he going to run, yes, no, maybe so! His witty, well informed comments from the past years were the best “hold the Vision Councillor’s feet to the fire” (sorry, Bill) form of satire out there. I’m curious too…

  • Mira

    Higgins got you there Bill!
You use soft gloves with Vision, and what will you get? Hugs and kisses. LOL. And a size 12 up your behind. Three years of pain and silly decisions are enough for the people of Vancouver. Bill dear, make up your mind! Pussies do not get elected, not in Vancouver anymore when the charitable donations come from down South.

  • spartikus

Good advice here, Bill…if you want to get elected in Uzbekistan.

Interesting comments by Alan Garr of the Courier:

I see Mike has resigned his position with Vancouver 24 hours (as has Eby) and Daniel is taking the slot on…..

  • Chris Keam

Weird. Can usually count on Max to provide a relevant Tsakumis link on most every topic. Must be an oversight. Let me remedy that.

    @ CK #14;

Not so ‘weird’ kindly point out where at any time I have referenced an AGT link…

Love the guy, think he is a fab blogger and a great digger of info not readily given up to media.

But have never cross referenced him.

But now that we are on the topic of AGT, he asked you Chris Keam…. Are your running for Council this fall???

  • Chris Keam

Absolutely not. I’d have to be an idiot to think I had a chance. One would have to be an even bigger idiot to pose such a ridiculous question.

    Max:

Three weeks ago. This very blog. Here’s the link and an excerpt from your comments in post #10

Add this to the list: As posted on Alex Tsakumi’s blog:

…’I can confirm that three lucky gents at City Hall are about to go on a ONE MONTH vacation, er, excuse me, work-related trip, to Christchurch, New Zealand, and all on your dime.”
