City Plumber: Aren’t Vancouver bus-riders really subsidizing all those empty buses roaming hungrily around Maple

Answer is on the City Plumber space on the left of this screen. Watch for an update in the next few days, when I provide a link to stats on all the bus routes and their load levels.

I just had to post this clip of Tommy, a retired TransLink bus driver who now drives a shuttle for the Hummingbird Pub on Galiano Island.

According to a friend who went cycling there this summer, Tommy hands out musical instruments to the passengers and gets them singing classic rock tunes and dancing in the aisle. Bus fare is by donation.

His regulars on his Metro Vancouver route lined up at all the bus stops and sang songs and waved Goodbye Tommy placards on his last day.

Just goes to show that there can be good vibes and fun even in a transit bureaucracy.

Well, I knew they did things differently on Bowen. 😉

If Tommy had driven a city bus just like that, he might not have lived to see his retirement. As a passenger watching that performance, I might have had a heart attack.

Moral of the story: don’t drum and drive.
